Artwork by Nancy V. Sims
Nancy V. Sims is a multi-decade visual artist who works in acrylic paintings on canvas, mixed media, mosaics, textile tapestries, and stained glass. She curated the EYE CHOOSE LOVE exhibit (named after her brand and mission) in November 2017 as a Prince George’s Arts & Humanities Council Fellow. Nancy was selected for both the Birds I View (Prince George’s County) and Party Animals (Washington DC) public sculpture series in the early 2000s.
Nancy's artistic abilities surfaced at a tender age, when she began designing greeting cards for her loved ones. In high school, her vocation became clear to all, and she received many commendations for her art. Nancy is principally a self-taught artist, who enriched her skills through coursework at the Corcoran School, Federal City College (now UDC) and the Art League.
Nancy favors bold colors and shapes, as well as the use of metaphor in her spiritually inspired, and often surreal or abstract works. Nancy worked in the graphics departments at the American Geophysical Union and at the Bureau of National Affairs until her retirement. She has taught youth art workshops for the Cultural Academy For Excellence. She raised three daughters in her native Washington DC, and now resides in Hyattsville MD within the Gateway Arts District. She enjoys her six grandchildren. Nancy is a proud member of the Hyattsville Community Arts Alliance.
